Breaking Down the Layout 3 - Creating Art with Silhouettes

It's time for another "Breaking Down the Layout". The layout below "All Boy" was a sample from the digital scrapbooking paper set: Different Strokes. This tutorial was a request from Dorothy Concia, so thank you Dorothy for asking about how to do it.

If you are receiving this post via the newsletter, you can see the tutorial on the YouTube Channel.

Merrick Collection

I'm sliding onto home on this one for Mother's Day. It's a favorite of mine. I love black and cream plus accent colors and this collection is accented in shades of rose and tan. Merrick was the name of a character in a book & I have always loved the name. It nods a touch to the Victorian era, with a more modern approach. Definitely feminine! I hope you enjoy it.

Vote & Win a Collection

I have been asked many times about my ever-changing blog titles. I change them for something new, to give some ideas for scrapbook page titles and because I like things to match. Recently someone asked if I had a gallery of all the past titles. I didn't, but I do now! You can see them on my Facebook Page.

Since I did that,  I thought we might have some fun & let you choose your favorite to win a Collection Biggie. (Any, not just the title you chose) Plus maybe I can get my likes up a little bit? You are not obligated to do that, but thank you very much if you have the time.

If you don't have Facebook, you can post a comment to this blog post and I will enter your name into the group. Scrap Girls Product Designers & Management are not eligible, but all other staff members are welcome.

Have fun & I hope you win!

Queen's Day in the Netherlands

In celebration for Queen's Day in the Netherlands (April 30th), enjoy this fun set of 12 old chipped digital scrapbooking crown charms in various colors. Perfect for an added touch of color to your layouts.

This year (2013) is quite special as Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands will abdicate her throne in favor of her son Prince Willem Alexander. This charm set was made in memory of the occasion.  Use them for the royalty in your family.

Now on SALE through April 30th at 35% OFF on these and everything else in the store!

When I saw these pictures of Lilly with her bear having her tea party, it reminded me of a time when I also loved a bear. That bear was named "Honey"..I know real original right? LOL Those times were certainly much simpler than having to be all grown up. As kids all we want to do is get big, but when we get there often times we wish we could go back, even for just a little while. I hope one day when Lilly is grown up, this will mean a little more to her than just a cute crown on her bear.

Feel free to use the poem in your personal scrapbooks.

When My Bear was the King
Looking back and remembering,
Seems like almost a dream.
To a time in my childhood
When my bear was the king.

Neither one of us perfect,
A tattered spot here and there.
I loved hard the crowned ruler,
That I called my bear.

Secrets, tea parties and
Books that we read.
And not once did you judge,
As you ruled from my bed.

I want to go back to
No worries or strife.
I want to go back
To the king in my life.

Now that I'm grown
I still like to dream...
My favorite memory is
When I was little &
my bear was the king.

Good Basics Every Scrapbooker Can Use

Hi all! Or shall I say "Hallo allemaal!" (I need to practice my Dutch..lol) This week I am in between collections and thought I would add some of the things I've made for my own stash of goodies. Things that are a must have for me.

Brush Set: Erosion Biggie

The brush set was used in several collections, but mostly Petals. I really like this set a lot because it makes a great blender or eraser. I think I will find myself using this one as much as I do the dynamic background blenders.

I found myself using it in the erase mode mostly so that my photos blended into the layouts. See above the effect. They are also great for highlighting your journaling.

This set also come in a Commercial Version.

19 Hearts Alpha: Gold

The gold alpha I made in February for 19 Hearts and have just been so busy, I didn't get it out. Thankfully Joyce Schardt jumped in to help with the layouts & did a great job! (see her layouts below) She always bring a fresh perspective.
